Personal Perspectives – The workplace after raising children

At Majer Recruitment, a large part of our daily work involves connecting, innovating and helping our candidates realise their full potential. The lovely Kylie sat down with us to discuss her career and how our one and only Nia Lloyd helped Kylie unlock her full potential.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a mature age worker possessing various abilities, qualifications and an abundance of life experience.

After raising three children, I suddenly found myself with a desire to re-enter the workforce in a more professional capacity. Like many women in my position I felt overwhelmed as I considered what skills and attributes employers would be looking for. I decided to reach out to Majer, honestly thinking that my experience and abilities wouldn’t qualify to even get my foot in the door. How wrong I was.

Nia Lloyd contacted me to set up a meeting. After our meeting, I walked out of the Majer office feeling valued and a sense of hope. Nia’s empathy and professionalism was and IS so inspiring.

Nia placed me a few weeks later in my first temp role as a Receptionist. From there, I have been placed in many roles including Receptionist, Administration Assistant, Leasing Consultant and Event Administrator. Roles lasted anywhere from one day, one week to 4 months and with each position I gained valuable experience, more confidence and a huge self-esteem boost. I have also made some amazing friends from workplaces that I now count as close friends. Thank you, Nia, for seeing the potential in me xx.

What are two positives that you can take from the current economic and employment climate?

I get to spend quality time with my partner.
I get the opportunity to upskill with online courses.

Can you tell us the best career advice you have ever received?

You are never too old, and it is never too late!

How would you describe Majer in three words?

  • Approachable
  • Professional
  • Family
