BDO Brisbane’s Amishree Raivadera reflects on change

Tell us a bit about yourself, and your role.

Hi! My name is Mish and I am one of the Recruitment Consultants in the BDO Brisbane team. A very big part of my role is looking after our Vacationer and Graduate Programs end-to-end, which means university visits and office tours – all of which I love! Additionally, I look after a part of our lateral recruitment within the business with my amazing colleague.

What are two positives you can tell us about your new situation due to the current climate?

Before our current situation hit its peak, we were able to bring my grandma over to Australia (from London) which has been a huge positive in my life as I hadn’t seen her in over 3 years. It has been amazing waking up and seeing her and having an extra person in the house to chat and laugh with. What’s better than grandma hugs?!

The second positive thing that has come out of our current situation is how much more I can get done in a day and how neat my house is! Not having to do hair, makeup and commuting for work has given me and extra 3-4hours each day to focus on myself and my environment. This certainly includes some ‘focus’ time on Netflix and Stan!

What is the best career advice you have received?

In University, I received some great advice from a colleague as I was unable to make a decision on graduate offers across firms and disciplines. She reminded me that the offer I take will not be forever and I have to allow myself to deviate off my ‘life plan’. Change happens and change is okay. This is something I struggled with for a while as that’s not what I had told myself growing up. I thought I had to make the ‘right’ decision. I ending up moving from Audit to Recruitment within two years and that was a hard change, but change is okay!
