Tell us a bit about yourself.
I recently became a Dad with the arrival of our little girl Dahlia. Thanks to a fantastic workplace, I had 3 weeks off for parental leave and I am loving it. Dahlia has been keeping my partner, Jacquie and I very busy during these times of isolation.
What do you do for work?
I work as a Team Administer for an accounting firm called Grant Thornton, where I am responsible for supporting the consulting team. Following my paternity leave, I am now back to working from home. There are a number of different accounting and billing software programs that I am learning to use and I really enjoy the challenge of learning new things.
What positives you can tell us about your new working from home situation?
A huge positive is that the company I work for is amazing. Grant Thornton were quickly able to move an entire workforce from an office-based team into a mobile work-from-home team. They really did an excellent job of communicating almost daily on an ever-changing situation and really made everyone feel supported.
What is the best career advice you have received?
The best career advice I ever received actually appeared as a question on an annual review I did many years go. The question was “Does the Team member build and maintain positive working relationships?” This question really stuck out to me and I have always made it an emphasis of mine to build and maintain positive working relationships with anyone and everyone that shares a workspace with me. You never know when someone can provide a helping hand or have a positive and productive influence on your work day.
